Kefin and I meet during our undergraduate years at Texas A&M (WHOOP!), though the official story of our meeting is a contentious debate of facts amongst the two of us. This is how the story goes. I met Kefin during Gig 'Em Week (the orientation week before school starts). I was meeting a friend from high school (shout out to Jerrell), and he was there with Kefin and mutual friends. Anyway, Kefin never introduced himself to me, he was too cool in his brown sweater, and I was like okay 😒 WHATEVER, and I never saw him again until next semester. We met again at bible study🙏🏽 (shout out to David and Matt) and we finally had a proper introduction. As it was late, and Kefin, being a gentleman, asked if he could walk me to back to campus since we both lived on the North side of campus. I accepted, and we had a nice chat learning a little bit more about each other. Now Kefin says he put his phone number in my phone...I can't recall the detail of that memory...sadly, we didn't see each other again until my sophomore year, his senior, and we finally were able to link up and grab lunch. Lunch turned into a 5 hour conversation that ended with a Taco Bell dinner, and we've been in each other's lives ever since 😊
Eboni and I did in fact meet during "GIG EM" week at A&M fall of 2012, when she was a freshman and I was a Junior. She walked in with our mutual friend Jerrell and he introduced her to everyone. I spoke to her briefly and told her it was a pleasure to meet her, but she just kind of brushed it off and continued eating her food that she came with (Eboni loves her food y'all). After this brief interaction which really didn't hold much weight, Eboni and I met again at Bible study (shout out to dry bones) that allowed us the opportunity to hear each other speak and it gave us a better idea of who each of us were and how we thought. Me being the GENTLEMEN that I am, I walked her back to her dorm since we lived really close to each other on campus, and gifted her my number just in case she ever wanted to hang out, chat, or had questions about college life. I wasn't being creepy at all, but she obviously thought so-and proceeded to never hit me up (probably never even saved my number -___-). I would see her randomly on campus from time to time and say to her playfully "dang girl you ain't ever gonna hit me up to hang out!" And she would laugh and say she was busy, but that we would eventually. That "eventually" came a whole semester later when we both just so happened to cross paths on campus and both had a long break in between our next obligations. We decided to get lunch and spoke for the longest amount of time I've ever spoken to someone for in one sitting. That day was truly special, as we had many friends, some still here and some that have departed, stop by our table and chop it up with us briefly before they went on their way. From that day I knew there was something special about this girl, and I know she felt it too! From then on we went from hanging out on campus, to hanging out in various Dallas coffee shops, to hanging out in different parts of the world :) God is truly the best novelist!
Women never question your intuition. I knew something was up the week of--he got his hair done, he asked for my Dad's number-- but I just brushed it off. Anyways, Kefin was leaving to travel to Guinea in December 2021 and would be gone during my birthday. To make up for his absence, he promised he would take me out to a nice, elegant dinner. I was dressed up, looking cute, Kefin was looking dashingly handsome in his suite (check the photos for the fit). He told me that he had to pick something up from our Pastor (shout out to Pastor Sedderick and First Lady Audrey) who wanted to send something to Guinea. I was like okay, he's leaving in two days that is believable. We were going to meet our Pastor at his son and daughter-in-laws (shout out to Bree and Ari) apartment downtown. When we arrived, I stayed settled in the car and was like, "Okay. I'll see you when you get back," but he waved me on and asked me to come with him. As we walked towards the building, Ari popped from around the corner with a camera in his hand and said, "Hey y'all! Aww you look so cute, let me take a picture of you!" So now my radar was on high alert. After the photos, we walk in the apartment building to ride the elevator. I noticed Kefin was fidgeting and tensing up as we passed each floor, traveling higher and higher. I look over to Ari, who, as always, was cool as a cucumber, as he gave me an assuring smile. We made a quick pit stop at Ari and Bree's apartment, and I'm like, okay cool, let's leave, mission accomplished, but then they said "no we have to go to the top floor because that where Pastor is." 🧐 Oh really...the game is afoot but I played along. As we headed up the additional floors, we made it to the rooftop elevator and both of them let me off first. As I walked towards the door to the deck, I opened it to the sound of Ms. Bree Raphiel singing, Sabrina Claudio's "Frozen." The music drifted through the air as I walked slowly up the ramp, florescent lights strung above me, swaying in the gentle December breeze. As I made it to the deck, I turned to the left and saw a big heart decorated in lights with the words, "Will you Marry Me?" Kefin, with the biggest smile on his face approached me as I laughed and said, "I'm gonna get you!" It was romantic, intimate, and the sweetest expression of love. He pulled out the box to reveal the most beautiful ring and here we are 😊
