Sean trained Emily as a fry-cook at Good Times Bar and Grill in Decorah, IA, the summer before their senior year at Luther College. He impressed her with his french fry and fried pickle making skills. Once the semester began, he made an effort to see her as often as possible on campus. This was actually pretty difficult, as he was in the math building and she was in the science and arts buildings. He played football and she played rugby, or was in rehearsal. So they never accidentally crossed paths on campus, not once. His efforts to come see her during the school day did not go unnoticed. After a couple of months of hanging out as often as possible, and their friends encouraging them, specifically David Mendez (shout out to David), they began their official relationship. They have been quite in love ever since.
Emily had just finished her last performance of a play at Theater 29, she took a bow and raised her hand in thanks to the tech crew. As she turned to leave the stage she realized none of her cast mates were leaving. In fact, they were all staring at her, smiling. You can understand the confusion she felt at that moment. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Sean stand up from his place in the audience and walk towards her, she knew what was about to go down. She doesn't remember exactly what he said or if he even asked her a question, she doesn't even know if she said yes to marrying him! She did, however, see the ring he was holding and grabbed it and placed it on her own finger, indicating a "yes" to the proposal. Sean hadn't quite planned out the rest, so he slowly backed away into his seat again, leaving Emily on the stage alone. So, pretty awkwardly, she kind of turned and left the stage to get out of costume. It was a beautiful, sweet, and slightly uncomfortable, which is exactly as it should have been. Perfect.
