How We Met

God brought us together, and the rest is history.

In November 2022, Ebenezer and I matched on Hinge, sparking a connection that quickly turned into plans for an ice-skating date on November 18. We set the time for 6:00 p.m. Running late, I messaged Ebenezer as I hurried to the train station where he surprised me with hot cider, a gesture that instantly warmed my heart. We ventured into the holiday market at Bryant Park, where laughter and conversation flowed freely. On the ice, Ebenezer's steady hand made me feel at ease, even though I'm not the best skater. We glided around together, making the cold November air feel warm. As the evening approached 8:00 p.m., I thought our date was winding down, but Ebenezer suggested dinner, leading us on a culinary journey through New York City to a cozy ramen spot. Our laughter and animated conversation filled the air as we savored each bite. After dinner, we headed to Nublu Lounge, where Ebenezer kept his promise to take me dancing. I thought it would be a nice treat seeing that we are both dancers and together, we could light up the dance floor. Before we knew it, it was past midnight and yet neither of us were ready to go home. When Ebenezer walked me to the train station, the soft glow of the lights made everything feel magical. We shared a sweet kiss, silently promising more to come. Boarding the train, I couldn't help but feel excited for what the future held for us. Thoughts of Ebenezer filled my head, and I knew this was just the beginning of our love story. Fast forward to October 21, 2023, and Ebenezer popped the question. I said yes, of course! Now, with the love and support of our family and friends, we're happily getting married this August, 2024. By God's grace, we hope to live out our own downtown Brooklyn Black love story.

How We Met

Ebenezer's Point of View

I came across Elizabeth's profile on my first day on Hinge. She was the first and only person I met, which made me feel like God wasn't wasting any time. I swiped on her profile because she jokingly claimed she sounded like Beyoncé, which I found hilarious. After talking for a couple of weeks, we finally planned our first date. I invited her to go ice skating. It was a simple date but turned into something much more. After skating, I showed her my favorite ramen spots in the city. We then walked 40 blocks together, realizing how much we had in common and confirming that our chemistry over the phone was real. Neither of us cared about the cold; we were completely present with each other. From the start, her faith, sense of humor, shared interests, and compassion for her students captivated me. It didn't take long for me to start inviting her to meet my friends and to realize she was the one I wanted to spend the holiday season with. When you find something special, there's no point in wasting time. I made sure to put a ring on it, and I'm confident that this was the best decision I've ever made.
