Matt and Monica knew each other for most of their college careers at The University of Dayton. They were introduced by mutual friends at a birthday party at Kenzie’s college house. After being introduced, Monica developed a crush on Matt (little to Matt’s knowledge). They remained friends throughout the rest of Matt’s time at Dayton. Before Matt graduated, Matt’s mom came to visit Dayton for the weekend. She met Monica at a house party and instantly loved her and proceeded to talk to Matt about her for the remainder of the weekend. A few months later after Matt moved to Columbus, he and Monica ran into each other at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Monica was just finishing up her internship in Columbus and was getting ready to head back to Dayton for her senior year. From then on, Matt and Monica spent more and more time together, which ultimately lead to them becoming a couple!
On May 29th, Monica and Matt spent the entire day moving into their new apartment. Matt suggested they stop moving a little earlier on in the day so they wouldn't be too tired for their friend Chad's "housewarming party" later that night. Monica went back to her apartment to get ready for the night, and kept telling her roommate, Bailey, how tired she was from the move. Monica wasn't feeling up to going to Chad's, but Bailey kept insisting that it would be fun. When Matt came to pick Monica up to go to the party, he mentioned they needed to stop on the rooftop at Chad's condo before heading to the party to pick up "beer bottles" from the night before. When they arrived on the roof, Matt pointed out that they could see their new apartment from where they were standing. While her back was turned, Matt called out her name and Monica turned around to find Matt down on one knee! Matt and Monica then went down to Chad's to be greeted by their families and best friends! Although Matt had to alter the proposal plans numerous times due to COVID restrictions, it turned out to be an extremely special night for the future McEvily's!
