Zach and I both attended the same school and in 2011 (year 10) we crossed paths in our maths class. Admiring his green eyes, sweeping hair and capturing smile from afar, we slowly began talking over Facebook as we found a shared interest in our music taste. Talking about our favourite bands, a friendship quickly grew but we were extremely shy and I was beyond nervous to talk to someone so perfect in person. In year 11, Zach moved into my home room and I remember the flush of blood that swept my cheeks and the fluttering of butterflies in my stomach as he walked in each day. I constantly talked to my best friend about how much I already liked him and how he was so different from everyone else I knew. I knew he was one of a kind. He quickly grew to like me back thanfully. At this point in time, I was going through quite an ordeal of emotions and misery and didn’t want to bring him down, so we remained friends but still liked each other despite other crushes or girlfriends/boyfriends that came along. It’s like we were magnets that would always attract back to each other somehow. Later in 2013 we began taking the time and effort to see each other outside of school and get to know each other more. Zach had left our school at the end of 2012, which left me heartbroken and it was at this point that I knew that this guy meant something incredibly important and held something special in my heart despite not knowing what it was at the time. All I knew was that I wanted him. I knew I wanted to be with him and I knew he was just different in the most inciting and heartwarming way. He had captured my heart from the beginning. After the frequent hangouts and as the feelings slowly magnified over the years of getting to know eachother, it all became clear to us both. And on the 14th July 2013, Zach asked me to be his girlfriend and obviously... I said yes! And here we are 4 and a half years later planning our wedding and preparing the next chapter of our lives together!
Maleny has always been OUR place. For Zachs 19th birthday in 2015, we arranged a romantic weekend in Maleny and stayed in a beautiful cottage that overlooked the mountains. From this day, Maleny truly captivated my heart and I was so set on the idea that one day I wanted to get engaged or married there. Zach had been saying for the past few months that he had wanted to take me there again as the last time we visited it was over cast, yet still incredibly beautiful. Wanting me to see it in it’s true beauty when the sun was shining, Zach organised to take a day off and go there as we hadn’t been on many adventurous drives as of recent. Setting off in an amazing mood with the sun blaring through the car windows, I couldn’t wait to visit our special happy place beside my favourite person. When we arrived Zach suggested that because we weren’t hungry, that we should go find our favourite lookout. Driving to two different lookouts in accidentally thinking it was our favourite one called Balmoral Ridge, we stopped and look at each one before continuing to drive to find the one we desired. As we arrived at Balmoral Ridge lookout, we took a few moments to admire the view. Zach explained that he wanted to get his phone from the car as I waited at the top, taking photos of the incredible views, although Zach was by far my favourite to look at. Walking back up with the ring in his pocket, a few more families arrived. Zach wanted it to be just us for this special moment so we walked down to the car where there was still an amazing view of the mountains. Declaring his love for me in the most romantic way, Zach reached for his pocket, pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him. I can honestly say that it was the best day of my life so far and I’m so lucky to have such a thoughtful, caring and compassionate fiancé to spend my life with.
