Along the Belfast Harborwalk, you can walk through a working shipyard. If you catch the right time, you can see them taking boats in and out of the water on the travel lift. At the far end of the shipyard just under the high bridge there is a pedestrian bridge that offers a great view of Belfast Harbor

You can walk along the Belfast waterfront on a paved trail that takes you from the Belfast Boathouse and Steamboat Landing Park through the Front Street Shipyard and across the pedestrian bridge for great views of Belfast Harbor. There are historical markers along the way to learn more about the history of Belfast.
"A Maine Adventure". Come for the "if they don't have it, you don't need it" experience, stay for some very cool collectables (may I suggest a mug that tells you how to eat a lobster?).

If you're going to be sticking around the area a little longer, this is a great museum dedicated to American and Maine-inspired art. It's also a lovely drive down Route 1 to get there from Belfast.
If you like heights, you can take an elevator to the top of the highest public bridge observatory in the world for stunning 360 degree views of Penobscot Bay, the Penobscot River, and the Maine countryside.
If staying in the area, or thinking about making a longer trip to Maine, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor should be high on your list. Cadillac Mountain and downtown Bar Harbor would be the highlights. You have to register online ahead of time to enter Acadia or drive or hike to the top of Cadillac.
If you're going to make the drive to Acadia, this a must-stop right on the way. Exactly what it sounds like, a big old chicken barn with antiques on the first floor and books on the second. It is easy to lose a few hours exploring here.
