We had never met when we gathered in our first Seminary Council meeting the end of our junior year of high school, not knowing how important each other's friendship would soon be. We got to know each other putting together activities and teaching together, studying the scriptures together and sharing our testimonies often.
Climbing Deseret Peak Our friend group was always doing activities and going on dates- that was the cool thing to do. I knew I liked Easton and I was pretty sure he liked me too- I didn't realize just how much I liked him until that first date. It felt so good to be paired with him, taken care of by him, focused on by him... he gave me butterflies the whole night, it was so exciting to cuddle up to him to stay warm in the mountains in the winter time. He gave me his heavy coat and it was so warm. I still don't know why we climbed a mountain in the winter, but whatever. Good memories.
Like most of our favorite moments together our first kiss happened under the stars. It was summer after our senior year of high school. We had spent most of our time together painting, stargazing, and other things that we love to do together. One of the things that we enjoyed on some Saturday evenings is going to star parties at the Stansbury observatory, where we could look through many powerful telescopes to learn about the planets and stars. After one of these star parties Rachel dropped me off at my house. We were both very nervous as we hugged goodbye for a little while and moved closer and closer to our first kiss. It happened! We kiss:) It was a wonderful first kiss! Not knowing before what this would all turn out to be. We have always been grateful for our love we have for each other and the starts that brought us together that night.
We both put our lives aside and served as volunteers for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He left in July to New Zealand, and she in the following March to Texas. Serving Christ with all our hearts and only sparse communication with each other.
We were both nervous about seeing each other again after so much time apart... it was an amazing first hug, I could hear his heart pounding. We were busier with our lives now than in our teenage years and we didn't see each other as often as we would have liked- we went out for ice cream, me thinking it was a date and he unaware.
We didn't date and we didn't spend a lot of time together after that and other boys monopolized my time, but time was the key to success here- after seven months of dating to no avail I was exhausted and missing Easton. He was hunting in Colorado when I realized how much I wanted to be near him. We began texting, he mentioned how amazing the stars were where he was and we planned to star-gaze together as soon as he got back. Finally, late into the night he leaned in to kiss me- our first kiss in over two years, under the stars like our very first. Nope! That is not when we started dating again. In June we took a spontaneous trip to Zion's National Park to climb Angel's Landing, we spent almost three days together without interruption if you include preparing for the trip- after we got back we did some more star-gazing and discussed what we wanted. We were both nervous, but eventually we cut the fluff and got it out that we wanted to be a couple, we started dating officially that night. We started out with adventure and we haven't stopped having adventures all the time, enjoying every moment we can have with each other.
Just like everything began, underneath the stars, he promised me the rest of our lives and eternity together- and asked me to marry him!
