Like many modern romances, ours began on a dating app. Grant messaged first—drawn in by one of Emma’s profile prompts featuring a fun fact: a shrimp’s heart is in its head…who knew? After a stretch of chatting and getting to know one another (and a brief period where Grant may have ghosted Emma for a couple of weeks), we finally went on our first date…which quickly turned into three. We started with dinner at a Thai restaurant (unsurprising to anyone who knows Emma). We were having such a great time that we took a walk on the Beltline to keep the night going. Halfway through, we stopped for a drink (also unsurprising to anyone who knows Grant). By the time that first date finally wrapped up, it was clear that we didn’t need Hinge anymore. We said goodbye to the woes of online dating and hello to a new life with each other. In the almost three years (nearly to the day) since, we’ve learned we’re our happiest together and have rarely gone more than a day or two without seeing one another. In that time, Emma finished graduate school, we adopted two cats (Squid and Twister; see below), navigated vacations and holidays with each other’s families, moved three times across Atlanta, and fell more in love with every chapter. Most recently, in May 2025, while we were visitng San Francisco, Grant proposed and we agreed to spend the rest of our lives together—we couldn’t be more excited! We are so grateful to be surrounded by our friends and family on our wedding day, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you in Dahlonega this March!
