What should I do while in the Bellingham area?

Answer

Bellingham is a relaxed mid-sized town nestled between Mount Baker and the Salish Sea, one hour south of Vancouver and 1.5 hours north of Seattle. This will be the home-base for the wedding with a short 20 minute drive to the venue. Bellingham is full of activities for the whole family ranging from multiple beaches, trails, and outdoor activities to a vibrant night life, breweries, and a lively art and music scene. The chill PNW vibe can be felt at our favorite local spots like Bayou on Bay, Uisce Irish Pub, Redlight, and State Street Bar (Brian's favorite dive). One of Bellingham's gems is Fairhaven, a highly walkable neighborhood filled with quaint shops, restaurants, and bars (a la Galena for the IL folks). Take the boardwalk from Fairhaven to the beach at Boulevard Park and enjoy tasty restaurants such as Magdalena's Bistro and Crêperie, which offers authentic Polish-American fare, The Black Cat, and Skylark's. What should I do while in the Seattle area?

Answer

Nature. Washington is known for its beautiful landscapes. Some of our recommendations include visiting Snoqualmie Falls or taking a day or two to drive through the North Cascades, which include spots like Winthrop - an old Western-style town, Leavenworth - a Bavarian mountain town, and Stevens Pass, where you can take a ski lift into the mountains. For those who prefer city activities, we recommend the Boeing Future of Flight Museum, the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Capital Hill, Gas Works Park, and Golden Gardens Beach, among others.

Should I rent a car?

Answer

While we're happy to arrange carpooling, we do recommend renting a car, which will provide the flexibility and access needed to fully enjoy this part of the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

How far is...from Bellingham?

The wedding venue, Barnstar Events (Ferndale, WA) - 20 minutes Seattle - 1.5 hours Vancouver - 1 hour (keep in mind that you have to cross the US/Canada border - bring your passport!) Portland - 4 hours

What's the wedding venue like?

Answer

Barnstar Events is a stunning, rustic venue located in the countryside of Ferndale, Washington. It features a 100-year old barn, horses, and a view of Mount Baker on a clear day. More info may be found at barnstarevents.com.

What is the dress code?

Answer

Rustic elegance. What is that? Dress wedding-appropriate, no shorts or jeans, but keep in mind that the wedding will be in a farm setting (there is hay on the floor in the barn!) so be comfortable and wear what will make you look and feel your best.

Is parking available at the wedding venue?

Answer

Yes. Parking is available and free at Barnstar Events. All parking is in the pasture along the driveway. Guests with limited mobility can be driven to the barn after which their car needs to be parked in the parking lot.

What are My Transportation Options? (Lyft/Uber, Taxi & Wedding Shuttle Services)

Answer

We will be providing some form of shuttle service to return people to town following our countryside reception. However, rideshare services are available in Bellingham and Ferndale, as well as formal taxis (which are often more readily available) for getting around town or to our wedding. Keep in mind that the wedding venue is in the countryside. Therefore, you may experience a longer wait time for a ride back!
