Kona has a huge selection of great vacation rentals available for any budget. This what we usually use to book when visiting the island. The two main areas to stay on the West side of the island are Kailua-Kona & Waikoloa. 

Waikoloa is much closer to the best beaches and has a resort feel. It is roughly 45 minutes-1 hour from the venue. 
Kona/Keahou is near the heart of the town. It's close to all the food spots, shops and you'll be anywhere from 5-15 minutes to the venue.
