In September of 2012 Tinder launched its platform, and with it, secured Stephanie & Dylan’s fate. Many years later in (approximately) December of 2015, Stephanie stumbled upon Dylan’s profile. What drew her attention you ask? Dylan’s bio had said “I’m looking for the Robin Scherbatsky to my Ted Mosby.” Who doesn’t love a good HIMYM reference? After flipping through his photos, she said why not and swiped right. She typed up a quippy message, hit send…. and then got GHOSTED. Smh, Dylan, smh. Fast forward a few weeks — Dylan finally responded and they made plans to meet up. Where else other than the Chipotle at Polaris Mall? So at 4:00PM on Sunday, January 31 (and yes we know the exact time because Stephanie is a psycho with her calendar) they met for the first time, and even though Dylan was a poor college student, he bought Stephanie’s bowl for her. Afterwards, they went for a walk at Highbanks Metro Park and the rest was history.
Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned…..wait no that's the wrong story. Where were we? Ah yes - the proposal story. There we were - ‘twas a rather warm, late-October Sunday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. We started the day off with brunch reservations, followed by a brisk 1.9 mile walk to Genoa Park. If you have never been to Genoa Park, it is a small sliver of land in the Franklinton area behind COSI facing the west-side of Downtown Columbus, offering beautiful views of the skyline. I would like to add that over the course of our relationship, I learned/was instructed that Stef’s one “requirement” for a proposal was that there had to be photos and/or videos of the event. Therefore, I recruited not one, not two, but three of mis amigos to be there to capture one of the most nerve wracking moments of my life. After finally arriving at Genoa Park, I made sure to wait a bit to allow ourselves to catch our breath (a 1.9 mile walk after a large brunch is rough, okay?) before heading to the predetermined “proposal zone”. Now, from this moment on my memory of the event is a little fuzzy. Stef will tell you that I mumbled a few things before randomly plopping down on one knee to ask the question - but I’m pretty sure that I was able to muster at least a few sweet nothings. To this day I am still unsure if Stef’s shock came from the proposal or seeing three of our friends randomly appear with their cameras on us. Low and behold, I asked, she said “yes” (obviously) and we celebrated with some libations at one of our favorite breweries with some of our favorite people.
