Long Beach, NY. Picture a girl at the front of a stage. One hand is pointing at the singer while the other is being used as her imaginary microphone. Picture a guy, coming into the bar late after a work shift to meet his friends. When the girl thought nothing could distract her in that moment, with only one month left before leaving for nursing school, all of that changed when she spotted him. The most beautiful man she'd ever seen! They make eye contact from across the bar, and with some courage juice in her system she points at him and motions with her finger for him to come meet her on the dance floor. He must've felt it too, because he didn't hesitate to walk right over. It was an instant effortless connection between the two, and they danced and laughed the night away. Yes, if you were wondering, that was us! <3
Just one month after we met & went on dates, hung out at each other's homes, and just enjoyed the beginning stages of a blooming relationship, it was time for me (Niki) to head off to Binghamton for nursing school. With the inevitable distance that was about to be between us, we made it official that day. From May-January we made the effort to go back and forth every other weekend to visit each other, sometimes meeting in the middle for mini getaways. When my last clinical got placed on Long Island for the spring semester, we were ecstatic to finally put the distance to rest! As hard as the distance was, we believe it ultimately made us as strong of a couple that we are today. From the beginning we had to work and put in effort to make it last. It allowed us to appreciate each other and the time we get to spend together. Like most things, there is always a silver lining! <3
Two years after we took the leap and became boyfriend/girlfriend, we decided to move in together! I had personally been ready to move in together since the beginning of time, but Dylan finally came to his senses. Me and him together, ALL THE TIME, how could he not want that earlier???... JK, it was the perfect timing for our relationship! <3 So the three of us went apartment hunting and found our perfect apartment in Long Beach. Dylan, Niki, & Koda. The three amigos. Then one day only a couple of months in, we decided Koda was the cutest thing in the world and we needed another. So here comes Otis, adopted and flown from Puerto Rico into JFK airport, where his new mommy and daddy were awaiting his arrival. I remember us both being so nervous to meet him that day, not knowing what to expect. But after a few WILD days (or maybe weeks), he instantly became our snuggle bug and Koda's new best friend. I wouldn't want it any other way, our family of four! <3
11/7/21. The most magical day! Dylan had planned a winery day for the two of us. I have never been to the wineries out east, so I could not wait! On the way out, he had mentioned the beaches on the north shore and how you could sometimes see whales. We started at Rose Hill Vineyard. The scenery was perfect as we sat back in our lawn chairs, sipped our wine and enjoyed the beautiful day. Then we went to Macari Vineyards down the road. We were greeted by a girl with two glasses of sparkling rose, and as we followed her I realized we were heading to a tent. When the tent was opened for us, I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Picture "glamping". A wood farm table covered in glasses of wine and an array of food, a record player, a cozy couch and fur accents everywhere. It was so dreamy! Again, we enjoyed each other's company, sipped more wine, and enjoyed the delicious food. Then Dylan mentioned the beach and the whales again. I kept thinking to myself, "why does he keep mentioning these long island whales!?" So after another attempt of getting me to these whales, I agreed it was time to leave the tent behind and head to the beach. Once we were there and by the water, I quickly learned the "whale watching" was just a ploy when I turned around to see Dylan down on his knee. He asked me to marry him, and for those of you who have seen the action shots, you could see how it was the happiest moment of my life. He had this day planned to a tee. I couldn't believe it. The surprises don't end there though. I of course facetime my mom right away, so excited to tell her the news. She happened to be at a brewery nearby (normal for her weekend activities) so we were heading there to stop by and show her the ring. When we walked into the brewery I noticed Dylan was bringing me toward a group of our friends and family to celebrate<3 This man made me the happiest girl!
