How We Met

5/11/2017

I was sitting in the flower shop on May 11. Between orders, I was scrolling through Facebook when it suggested I add him. We had mutual friends from CCU and I thought he was really cute, especially when I found out he played basketball there. So being my awkward self, I added him. I instantly regretted it because I don't usually add people I don't know, and tried to delete the request. But it was too late... He had seen it and added me back. And he messaged me! But the message wasn't what I thought. He went on to tell me that Jenn (one of our most favorite mutual friends) had told him there was a girl (me) he needed to talk to and that she probably told me about him too. She didn't! He ended up asking me to meet him while he was in Colorado for his Master's graduation. I told him no because I was sticking to some promises I had made to myself... I thought it was over at that point and that he wouldn't want to talk to me. Until he texted me the next morning apologizing and asking if I'd go to coffee with him that morning before he left town. It was Mother's Day so there was no way I could leave the shop. He went back to Alaska and I thought we'd never talk again. But we had a connection and kept talking even 3,000 miles away. We decided to make it official even without meeting in person. I went to Alaska in August to meet him for real! It was terrifying but I knew I loved him. And here we are! -Nicole While boarding my flight to Denver I received a call from a friend (Jenn) about a girl I just had to meet. I got on the flight not thinking much of it until I landed in Denver with a friend request from Nicole. Using common sense and thinking that Jenn had also talked to Nicole (she had not) I sent a message to Nicole asking if she would like to get together on my short trip. She said no...and being the stubborn human being that I am I asked again. To which she also said no...But for some reason we continued to talk. And I think she filled you in on the rest! =) -Dylan

The Proposal

March 27, 2018

Nicole and I had joked quite a bit about getting married but little did she know, I wasn't joking at all. Being a bit naive, I thought picking out a ring she would like would be incredibly easy. I wanted to propose in Denver since Nicole had already made so many trips up to Anchorage. So I ended up finding a ring and picked the date, her upcoming birthday. Not being able to map out places and not really having a special place in Colorado together (we had only spent a few days together there) made it really hard to find the perfect spot for the engagement. So I did some research on Google Maps and talked with Leisha about picking a spot when I flew down. I got to Denver on her birthday, and Leisha took me downtown to find a spot. After we picked one, I went into hiding for the rest of the day and made the plan for the photographer and made sure with her boss, Sarah, that we would be able to come to the event afterwards. At about 6pm I headed to the spot while Leisha and Nicole were to get a coffee and walk my way. Nicole and Leisha were talking about fishing while walking towards me and while Nicole cast her imaginary pole right in my direction. When she realized that I was at the end of her line, she ran over and gave me a big hug. I awkwardly told her I needed to ask her something and dropped down on one knee to the response of, "Wait Dylan, is this real." As they say, the rest is history. -Dylan
