Even though Dylan and Derek grew up just a few hours apart in small northern Alberta towns, their paths didn’t cross until they both ended up in Edmonton for university. Fate (and a mutual friend) finally brought them together on December 13, 2013, at Buddy’s on Jasper Ave. Derek spent most of the night trying to get Dylan to dance with him—with zero success. But the universe had other plans, and they randomly ran into each other again the very next night. This time, Dylan’s friend pointed out that Derek was clearly interested, which to Dylan, was not “clear” at all. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Shortly after they exchanged numbers, they both headed up north to go home for Christmas. They spent the entire holiday season texting and calling each other. When they got back to Edmonton, they finally had their first date—a cozy night in watching The Wolverine at Dylan’s apartment. The rest, as they say, is history! Since then, they have conquered a long-distance relationship, worked together in a community pharmacy (during a global pandemic), traveled the world, bought their first home, and welcomed their precious baby, Pepper, into their lives. During their 10-year dating anniversary, they decided it was the perfect moment to make things official and get engaged. They planned an intimate night at home to share loving words and commit to marriage in the home they built together. Now, they’re beyond excited to celebrate their love with their favorite people on July 19, 2025. They can’t wait to spend the day (and night!) with everyone.
