One night in the summer of 2023, Dylan and Alyssa went to a dance event. Alyssa came for a West Coast swing lesson, and Dylan for a country swing lesson. They bumped into each other and Dylan asked Alyssa to dance. It was brief, but memorable. A few weeks later, both of them were at Woodside Swing for Lindy Hop lessons. Dylan was a regular, and Alyssa had always wanted to learn. Dylan recognized her, but couldn't place where he had seen her before. Alyssa wondered why this guy was looking at her oddly from across the room. Towards the end of the night, a West Coast song came on and another dancer who knew that style asked her to dance. That was when it clicked in Dylan's mind where he had seen her. After the dance, he approached Alyssa and said "I know where I've seen you. You go to Swing Factor!" Alyssa replied, "So THAT'S why you were staring at me from across the room! Yes I go to Swing Factor. My name is Alyssa!" After that, they saw each other regularly at Lindy practice. During their first dance, Alyssa was nervous that she was messing up and said "Sorry!" several times. In a teasing manner, Dylan replied with "Stop appropriating my culture!" "What?" Alyssa replied in confusion. "I'm Canadian," Dylan said. Alyssa laughed, and as she got more comfortable with both her new dance partner and style, she apologized less and less. One night after dance practice, Dylan and Alyssa sat outside the building under a tree, just talking and laughing for hours. It was midnight when they realized they had to go home. As they said their goodbyes, Alyssa said "You know... I just have a good feeling that you and I will be really good friends!" And how right Alyssa was. They began to hang out more outside of dance, and they realized their feelings towards each other. They had their first date on Dylan's birthday, and the rest is history! That is how they met. They met dancing and will be dancing together for the rest of their lives!
