We met in high school. Alexa was young, athletic, and beautiful..of course I noticed her, everyone noticed her! As a HS athlete, you always hear about the young superstars coming up. For example, the 09 grads were the ones to give me my nickname McDerm. I was the sophomore “athlete” being noticed by the upper classman! Wrong. I was the sophomore “Nathlete” testing the limits on the definition of house party. Which brings Alexa Mae back in the story. Now a Senior, doing everything to catch a laugh during study hall, I grab the attention of that same beautiful superstar. There was a party that night and she offered to drive. She drove everyone home that night. Took care of all of us. Little did I know that from that day on, she would be taking care of me for the rest of my life. We didn’t date in HS or college. We were good friends that would see each other in the summers and enjoy fun times and we kept it at that. But for some reason we both knew that we could always rely on each other. Even after a few years of not seeing each other, she knew she could call me anytime and I would be there. Summer of 2017 we reconnected with a great friend group. With my same pursuit of catching a laugh, I was able to start to get to know Alexa beyond that beautiful athlete. And she was able to see my true caring nature. After a long while, she finally gave me a true chance, and she changed my life. Alexa and I connected through laughter and love for each other. I will always remember the day I fell in love with her. That same day I realized I could count on her. It’s not easy to be in a relationship with me. We all know some major things I’ve been through. Ever since we’ve started dating, I’ve needed Alexa Mae everyday. Her support is everything. Most women stay clear from situations like mine. Alexa not only gave me a chance, but started to drive the ship to our happiness and the rest is history. Which led me to one knee and asking the love of my life to marry me!
