Matt and Megan were both on the UW-Platteville Track and Field team, and in the same Statics class. One day at track practice, Matt approached Megan for help on the next Statics assignment, after that day Matt's grades improved and Megan gained a social life. Our relationship blossomed over bad servers at Red Robin, aborted camping trips, and lots of heartfelt conversation along the way.
Like all good love stories begin, we made the impulsive and foolish decision to do a 10k snowshoe race over Lake Superior without any training or prior experience, to the extent that Megan did not use snow shoes (they didn't fit). As the race began, we found a comfortable, and aggressive, pace knocking off the first several miles with ease. Then as we approached the half-way point, Matthew needed to "fix his snowshoe" and proposed at the side of the race. Megan cried as several other snowshoers cheered. Eventually she remembered to say "yes" and they finished the race physically and emotionally exhausted.
