How we met:

For those of you who didn’t know, we met on an online dating app called Hinge! We both matched each other. We bonded over our love of Game of Thrones and cooking (he promised he’d make me his special Targarion turkey wraps and a Lannister lemon drop martini - and 3 yrs later, I have never seen those. Hmm..) Our first date I made him go with me to a sketchy Walmart and buy last minute Christmas gifts. We ordered pizza with pineapple (gross- but I really liked Dwight so I ate it & never let him know I didn’t like it). We watched Game of Thrones all night, and then went our separate ways. We continued casually dating for a few months and then on April 1st, 2019, we were eating more pizza at Tailgate and talking about him moving for two months to Atlanta for flight school. We were finishing our beers, talking about life, and then he asked me to be his girlfriend. I thought this was either a really mean April Fool’s joke or he was serious (turns out he was serious).

The Proposal:

It was February 10th, 2021 and Dwight was turning the big 30!! We had planned on going to Mere Bulles for dinner, and he had mentioned a private room for just us. I had suspicions, but if anyone knows Dwight, I thought he just wanted a really fancy night for himself. The entire day Dwight was being so shady and avoided being around me when he was on his phone. I didn’t know what was going on. We got to the restaurant, went upstairs, and sure enough, we walked into a private dining room set up for just us two. We had our own personal waiter and the room was decorated beautifully. We ate and drank so much delicious food, and then the dessert menu came around. All I wanted was the carrot cake, and the waiter avoided eye contact with me, and even skipped me when asking about dessert- rude. He and Dwight locked eyes and all I hear is Dwight saying “WE WANT THE CHOCOLATE DECADENCE CAKE!” I remember just looking over at Dwight thinking, “Well alright then…. For someone who doesn’t eat dessert a lot, you sure wanted that cake.” But it was his birthday so I let him have his moment. Time goes by, and I hear the waiter coming back with dessert. He walks in with the plate lifted to his chest where we couldn’t see the cake (at this point I was like what is going on with this guy). Then he locks eyes again with Dwight! I’m just looking at them staring at each other and then I looked down at the plate he placed on the table. That’s when I saw the most beautiful ring inside a strawberry on that chocolate decadence cake. After that, it all made sense. The reason why we had a private dining room, just ourselves. Why he was being so shady on the phone all day. And why he yelled for us to have the chocolate decadence cake.
