It all started in 2012, on a college campus where fate (and a campus job) brought us together. Steve worked in the university’s transportation department, shuttling students to and from the airport and bus stops. One late night, thinking he was done for the evening and ready to hang out with friends, Steve got a call from his boss: there was a student stranded at the bus station with no ride back to campus — and he was the only one who could go. Reluctantly, and with a friend in tow, Steve went to pick her up. That student was Esh. On the ride back, Steve cracked some jokes and made small talk, while Esh silently sized up the overly confident college football player who seemed to think every girl on campus had a crush on him. (Spoiler: she didn’t. Yet.) After that night, they started seeing each other around campus more often. It took a little while to exchange numbers — and even longer for Esh to warm up to the idea of talking to “that guy from the shuttle ride.” But eventually, curiosity (and Steve’s persistence) won out.
