Both adventurers at heart, we found ourselves back in Clovis, our hometown, in December 2015. Neither one of us had called Clovis home since we left for college. I, Dusty, had recently returned from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was meeting a friend for coffee. Meghan, fresh from a stint in Washington D.C., was having coffee with someone, a guy, that looked familiar. I noticed her as soon as I walked into Kuppa Joy. I was in no mood to get in the way of what I assumed was a coffee date, but nonetheless wanted to say hi. I put in my order and turned around. With a big smile I said hi, and we talked for no more than two minutes. A couple weeks after that, on New Years day, I received a message on Facebook. In all honesty that in itself made my heart jump a bit. Facebook had become a place where people that didn't have my number hit me up. On a couple occasions this actually led to "talking". When I saw that Meghan Marvin had messaged me a mix of confusion, curiosity, and excitement ensued. I remembered running into her. I also remember receiving a friend request on Facebook and Instagram from her sister, Maddy, the day after our Kuppa Joy encounter. All the pieces aligned now. In the message she mentioned how nice it was to see me a few weeks back and asked me to coffee! I was super nervous. My fight or flight response flared up, as abnormal as that may sound, and I was frozen. Do I go on a date with this attractive, sweet girl I hadn't seen in years and didn't know well, or do I make up an excuse? I was newly home with a sense of grounding in Clovis because I landed a job. I was ready to explore dating and decided to go for it. We set a date for Monday at 5:30.
Dusty: I reached out to SisterLee Photography because I knew Meghan loves her work. I wanted to propose in a way that Meghan would get all dressed up without me having to drop any hints. I thought to set up a fake Instagram contest that she would find and apply to. She eventually found the post and told her sister Maddy. She then applied to the contest that Sisterlee had created for our rouse. From there, all of the details started coming together. Rachel, from Sisterlee, contacted a bunch of vendors to make the styled shoot special for the proposal. Hair and makeup, a suit, a dress, and even and amazing picnic! So many people really stepped up to make the proposal special. Meghan: I saw an instagram post from SisterLee Photography that basically read, "Model Call! I need a couple to model for me for an upcoming photoshoot!" I applied for it and thought maybe I would get lucky. The next day Rachel reached out to me and said I had won! I was SO excited! The day of the photoshoot was so fun. I got my hair and makeup professionally done. They dressed us up and even provided a picnic. When the photoshoot began, Rachel's second shooter began to play music and I was little confused but thought, hey maybe we are super awkward and they want us to relax haha. Then Dusty pulled out a sea shell with a ring inside and got down on one knee. I LOST IT! I was so so shocked and so so happy! We continued the photoshoot on cloud9. After the shoot, Dusty had one last surprise for me. All of my family and his family were at my sister's house ready to celebrate. It was the best day ever.
