We first met briefly in September 2015, during Megan’s interview for a design position with a local builder. He popped in for less than 5 minutes just to introduce himself and then left because he had a busy day. Megan got hired...because well, she’s awesome! That following January, Dustin and his current wife decided to separate. Megan encouraged him to try out dating apps because she was on them at the time. So we would frequently check in with each other to see how things were going. This started to develop an awesome friendship! We started hanging out at work a lot more, going on job site visits together and usually would eat lunch together a couple times each week. We started doing happy hour after work and then talking on the phone all night long. One day, around June of 2016, we took a long lunch and about an hour after we got back to work Dustin went home early (totally not like him) and called Megan later that day after she got home. He told her that he was just sitting in his office -not working- because he couldn’t stop thinking about asking her out on a real date and that was the beginning of it all! We secretly dated for about 6 months, until he left for a better job opportunity and then we didn’t have to be a secret anymore! All the rest is history!
We had been talking about getting engaged for a while, so we went to look at rings one week in October 2018 during our weekly date night. He secretly went back to the ring store and purchased it some time before the holidays-he denies it but I know this because I saw the business card fall out of his pocket when we were putting up Christmas lights! We didn't want a cheesy holiday engagement so he waited until after New Years. We had so much going on in January that we started joking about it in the kitchen one night and he said "I mean...I could go get it (the ring) and do it right now" and I turned around and we both said at the exact same time "but there's not a photographer here!!" Since I obviously knew it was coming, the photographer was my only request and I didn't want to know any thing else! SO flash forward a few weeks and we went to New York to visit my family in early February. We went to see Niagara Falls on our first day and we needed a family photo so I scoped out a good spot and held down the fort while Dustin hunted down our photographer. I saw him explaining his phone to the guy and I thought "do we really want this guy taking our picture??" but he brought him over and we posed for our first pic, then Dustin went to check it out-swiped it to video- and had the guy "retake" it. That was the big moment! Down on one knee he went and we were engaged!! After we had our moment Dustin told me that our photographer was a French guy and didn't even speak English but was SO happy for us and gave him a big hug when he gave the phone back!
