Our meeting was like one out of a cheesy romance movie. I was working at a salon as a personal assistant. This client walks in, & we start chatting. She talks about her family and mentions her stepson, who is "SO cute"! She leaves, & I think nothing of it. A few weeks later, she returns with her husband & before she leaves, she shows me his picture- right then I thought, "he's way out of my league & I'm not his type." Once again, she leaves, & I think nothing of it. Later that evening, my friend & "boss" text me saying her client's son messaged her & was wanting to connect with me. My heart immediately started racing. What was I going to say? Why did he want to contact me? Was he put up to this? Moments later, I get a Facebook message request- it's him. Of course, before I accept it, I stalked his profile- it’s the normal thing to do! Again, I thought "I'm not his type"! We started messaging back & forth, & he asked if he could call me to continue the conversation over the phone. Instant panic set in- what was I going to say? Trying not to panic too much, I sent my number & got the call within a few minutes. When I heard his voice for the first time, the butterflies became the only thing I could focus on. There is absolutely no way I could recall what was even said during the conversation that night- the only thing I remember was his country twang that sounded a little forced if you ask me ;) As the call ended, we agreed to meet in person within a few days. The anticipation was worse than waiting to see if you got the job or passed a big test you studied so hard for. When the day finally came, I was just leaving work & was waiting to see if he was on his way. My phone rang- it was him. I knew it, he was blowing me off, this was too good to be true! Which friend could I call to get a drink & complain about this with? I answered the call, & he explains that his mom & niece were under the weather, & he wanted to be there for them. Which was sweet, but which book did he find that excuse in? He apologized & asked if I wanted to ride over & at least have a drink with him. Thinking there was nothing to lose, I said sure & started making the drive. When I arrived, like a true gentleman, he was waiting outside for me & met me at my car. We slowly made our way to the front porch talking (still with the forced country twang) & laughing. Time felt like it stopped, but before we knew it, we had spent almost two hours just getting to know one another. He suddenly asked, “Do you want to just take a drive & listen to music?” & being the over explainer that he is, he ensured me he wasn’t crazy & wasn’t trying to kidnap me, he just thought the best way to get to know a person was through listening to the music they chose. Why not, I thought! We hopped in the car, the tunes started & we had some of the most amazing in-depth conversations about so many things! As the night came to an end, we made our way back to the porch being the awkward people that we are, not really talking, but enjoying each other’s company. Suddenly, the weather took a turn for the worst. The rain was so bad, there was no way I could drive! So, we sat on bench & waited out the storm. As it slacked off enough to at least make it to the car without getting completely drenched, I stood up & started to say goodbye. I thought for sure this was a one-time thing & that he realized that I really wasn’t what he was looking for. To my surprise, he asked “when he would see me again” with the biggest smile! I replied jokingly, “what about tomorrow?” Without missing a beat, he perked up & that twangy “Ab-sol-u-te-ly!” came out! We laughed and before I could make my way to the car, in the cutest and shy way, I heard “would it be alright if I gave you a kiss good night?” Spoiler alert, the butterflies literally exploded right out of me! The drive home I remember thinking, this was worth every second of the time spent with each other!
