Hemlock Creek trail is a 2 mile out and back trail that begins at Brecksville Road and Selig Drive in Independence. The asphalt trail runs through historic Independence and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It will eventually meet up with the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Half way through the hike you will come upon Hemlock Creek Falls. You can also go off the trail to see remnants of an old quarry.
Lock 39 gives cyclists and hikers access to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, and paddlers access to the Cuyahoga River Water Trail. A small pathway is located on the southwest side of the parking lot at the Lock 39 Trailhead just north (downstream) of the pedestrian bridge. The Lock 39 parking area is relatively small. If the parking lot is full, overflow parking is located at the Rockside Station parking area.
