We were lucky enough to visit Charleston Sloth and Exotics with Best Man Blair for Mike's 35th birthday. We got to feed and cuddle a sloth, hold baby possums, walk an anteater, and feed a giant tortoise. Highly recommended activity!
We have been to visit the 500-1,500+ year old Angel Oak Tree many times since moving to the Charleston area. While the exact age of the tree is in dispute, it is said to be the oldest living thing east of the Mississippi River. We love to bring guests to witness the quiet magnitude of the immense tree. If you are making the trip to Charleston Sloth, you absolutely must make a stop at the Angel Oak.
While there are many grand and beautiful homes on the Charleston Peninsula, a section of East Bay Street with Easter Egg-colored houses has become a symbol of the city. Make sure you walk or even drive by these homes on your visit to downtown.
There are two ferry departure points for the Fort Sumter tours, one from Downtown Charleston at 340 Concord Street and one from Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. This educational tour begins with a ~15 minute ferry ride to the Fort on the Charleston Harbor. The tickets for these tours are known to sell out, so we recommend that if you plan on attending, you should book at least a week in advance.
Our favorite museum in Charleston is the Provost Dungeon, which operated from 1771 until 1945. The tour guides working there are encouraged to dress up in costumes from any historical time when the dungeon was being used.
