Vermont has over 50 breweries making it home to the most craft beer producers in the country, per capita! You don’t have to go far to enjoy great Vermont Beer. There are many breweries as you make your way from Burlington down towards Middlebury. Zero Gravity, Foam Brewers, The Alchemist, Burlington Beer Company, Switchback, Four Quarters, Fiddlehead, Hired Hand, Drop-In Brewing are just a few of the many we recommend!
Vergennes is Vermont’s smallest city in population and has an area of just two square miles, but with a standout restaurant row, a beautiful historic setting and a location that’s convenient to Lake Champlain you'll never want to leave! We recommend coffee and pastries at Vergennes Laundry, breakfast at 3 Squares Café, the salmon or steak at the cozy Black Sheep Bistro, or burgers and wings at Park Squeeze. Don't miss out on drinks at Shacksbury Cider or dessert at Lu Lu Ice Cream.
Basin Harbor has their very own golf course! Please visit their website or call 802.475.2311 if you would like to utilize the course and they will add the option you select to your stay.
Button Bay, a 253-acre park, is located on a bluff in Ferrisburgh along the 130-mile long Lake Champlain. Historically, the area has been visited by such notables as Samuel De Champlain (1609), Ethan Allen (1776), Ben Franklin (1776), and Benedict Arnold (1777). Once operating as a farm, the area became a state park in 1964. There is an easy, 3 mile out and back trail that starts/ends on the Basin Harbor property. This a great option for anyone looking to walk or trail run while enjoying great views of Lake Champlain.
With 700-acres, Basin Harbor has a lot to explore. With rental bikes available ranging from road bikes to mountain bikes, pick your terrain and we will have the right two-wheeled adventurer for you. Take an afternoon to bike to the Champlain Bridge, or a shorter 7 mile bike into the downtown Vergennes to enjoy quaint shopping or a pastry at Vergennes Laundry. Perhaps exploring the woods is more your style. Pick up a trail map from the concierge, and head out for a morning pedal. Don’t forget to visit the new Pump Track for you adrenaline junkies. Our best suggestion for biking routes is www.champlainbikeways.org. Their site has routes on both sides of the lake and provide detailed mile by mile directions.
Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is located just down the road from Basin Harbor. It offers a unique experience into the region's history, archaeology and ecology of Lake Champlain.
