Our story began in a place neither of us could have planned—a discipleship program where our hearts were being shaped to look more like Jesus. At first, we were simply learning how to exist in the same space, figuring out each other’s rhythms and personalities. But as the days passed, and we spent more time learning, serving, and growing side by side, something beautiful began to take root. What started as an unexpected connection slowly turned into a deep, genuine friendship. Even though we weren’t in a season to pursue dating, that became such a gift. We were able to truly know one another—walking through everyday moments together, encouraging each other, and building a foundation grounded in faith. Somewhere in the middle of it all, the little things began to stand out—Suzy fell in love with the way Michael played guitar, and Michael couldn’t get enough of her laugh. Along the way, we didn’t just fall for each other—we fell in love with each other’s hearts for Jesus and the shared passion we both have for ministry. When the program ended, we chose to move forward with intention. We spent time with each other’s families, prayed through what was next, and trusted God with every step. Then, in February 2025, Michael asked Suzy to be his girlfriend at Topgolf—a moment that marked the beginning of a season full of joy, growth, and a deepening love. About a year later, Michael knew he didn’t just want more time—he wanted forever. After asking for her family’s blessing (and patiently waiting a couple of days for the official answer!), he planned a proposal that reflected both the beauty of their story and the faithfulness of God. On a snowy winter day in Naperville, surrounded by stillness and quiet, he asked Suzy to marry him—and she said yes. Looking back, we can see how every step was intentional, even the ones we didn’t understand at the time. What began as an unexpected friendship has become a love story we know was written with purpose. We’re so excited to continue building a life together—one centered on faith, love, and the calling God has placed on our hearts.
