One time at summer camp...

Summer 2011

Cassie was on her 4th year as a camp counselor for a summer rec program in her town. She had formed a friendship with her colleagues and was having the best tme working minimum wage and enjoyng her summer. One day there was a field trip to the famous “Dew Zoo”. Loading the bus, Amber mentions her cousin was going to join them because he was here visiting from North Carolina. Cassie steps off the bus and gathers her group of wide eyed campers to start the tour when Amber pulls up and exits her car. Following her- a boy with a flat brimmed hat, white t shirt with what looked like another white tank top underneath, tan shorts and boat shoes(which wasn’t the best choice for the muddy field trip we were about to endour). Amber introduced him as Matt, and of course, joined Cassies group for the tour. Matt would say that Cassie couldn’t keep her eyes off of him the entire time, but if you were to ask her she would say he couldn’t resist her adidas gym shorts and green and blue nike shoes (much more appropriate for the zoo). Matt being a man of VERY few words, no conversations were had between the two. However, they both went home that day thinking of one another. It didn’t take long for the next field trip to come around for Amber to work her match making magic. After much convincing and torment, phone numbers were exchanged and an arrangement to meet outside of summer camp was made. It turned into the only thing both wanted to do. They spent every day together, sometimes until three o’clock in the morning talking, making grilled cheese and riding in Gramps truck. Summer for them was coming to an end, or was it? One night as they lay on the basketball court just days before Matt’s flight home, Cassie ran through the best two weeks she had ever had. It had been full of beach days, hugs that meant things and words sweet enough to believe. It was all about to just be a summer fling. ❤️ Then, he turned to her and said “ I think I’m going to stay a little longer here.” ❤️

FINALLY

12/22/18

You would never think a simple weekend getaway would be the best night ever. Arriving in New York City at a hotel, watching Harry Potter and eating junk food to prepare for a Rockettes show, it was almost Christmas time so you best bet I was going to be seeing that giant tree that night. After an amazing show we fought the crowd and saw the tree. It was just as beautiful in person as it was in videos. This is when Matt insisted we go back near the area. Me, being the brat I am complained that it was too crowded then him saying”I think we need one more picture” offended me, because I had taken 15 of them already. Reluctantly I had him hand his phone to a stranger. Then the most introverted person I have ever met, got down on one knee. People watching and cheering for us in the background, of course I said yes and OMG FINALLY. We spent the rest of the night eating at one of the best restaurants I’ve been to, and departing the next morning after eating breakfast at a local cafe. Of course my entire family already knew, but they humored me when i told them the story.
