Why am I only invited to the wedding ceremony but not the reception party in Illinois?

The Chicago reception is only for the bride's family and friends. However, only the groom's immediate family and friends are invited. This is because we thought it would be best for both families to enjoy their respective traditions due to cultural differences. Additionally, both families are quite large and it would become overwhelming for everyone. However, those invited to the NC wedding will have a reception that will follow after the ceremony.
