For those that may be staying closer to downtown Austin. South Congress is the perfect place to explore if you have a few hours to spare and don't want to uber all over town. With plenty of shops, restaurants, and even some live music (if you're lucky) you won't be disappointed! Drew and I love going to Allens boots to look at some western wear. Grabbing a slice of pizza from Home Slice (yes they serve it by the slice!) and just enjoying the sights!
If you are staying north of the city, the domain is another great place to spend a couple of hours. The Domain houses a ton of major retailers and even some designer shops. There are tons of bars and restaurants mixed in as well! One of our favorite spots to grab some sushi is at Blue Sushi and Sake Grill, you MUST get the yellowtail serrano appetizer.
Austin's home for legendary central Texas BBQ Born and raised in Lockhart, Texas - the barbecue capital of Texas, and perhaps the world - our dad Terry Black passed down generations of barbecue wisdom from his experience in the Lockhart BBQ scene. We opened Terry Black’s to honor that hard-earned family know-how and to bring delicious Central Texas flavors to you with our own unique style.
*You may have to wait in a very long line on the weekend. Some people get out there at 6 am.* Aaron Franklin's interest in barbecue started with the backyard cookouts that he and Stacy Franklin, would throw. They had no idea what they were getting themselves into when they opened up a small barbecue trailer on the side of an Austin, Texas interstate in 2009. Today, crowds stand in line for hours for a taste of his mouth-watering brisket. Franklin Barbecue has been celebrated by everyone from Jimmy Kimmel to Anthony Bourdain to President Obama. Aaron is the recipient of the James Beard Award for Best Chef and has also been inducted into the American Royal Barbecue Hall of Fame for 2020.
