How We Met

Spring 2021

We met the old fashioned way… on a dating app! We first started chatting about our equal disdain for the movie ET, which spiraled into the most in-depth discussion of Drew Barrymore movies either of us has ever had. We clicked right away and had our first date about a month after our first conversation. We had dinner at Secreto in Brookhaven and then continued the date at Pure Taqueria a few doors down. We saw each other a few days later and the rest is history!

The Proposal

September 20, 2023

In the fall of 2022 we won a trip to Ireland at a silent auction benefiting SafeHouse Outreach. We planned the trip for September 2023 and I was 100% convinced Drew would propose on the trip. I didn’t know where or how, but I was certain we’d get engaged in Ireland. Drew initially planned to propose on the trip but ultimately decided to pop the question the day before we left. He wanted our families to be able to be there and for me to be able to see my teacher friends the next day. So thoughtful! When I got home from work on September 20, I walked in the door to Drew on one knee, surrounded by rose petals, flowers, balloons, and other beautiful decorations. I was more surprised than I’ve ever been in my life! Our families were hiding in the basement and we got to celebrate our engagement with them at Canoe, the restaurant at which we celebrate our anniversaries. The next day my sweet work friends decorated my classroom and set up an amazing breakfast buffet to celebrate. That afternoon, Drew and I set off for Ireland and had the most incredible engagement trip that we kept saying felt like our first honeymoon! It was perfect. -Maddie
