Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Alexandra Nuttall and Andrew Mengason
There’s more to the Northern Outer Banks than its breathtaking beaches. Explore the lighthouse, meet the wild horses, and uncover local gems — from farm stands to coastal trails. Adventure, history, and seaside charm are all right here.
Currituck Beach Lighthouse

Currituck Beach Lighthouse

1101 Corolla Village Road, Corolla, NC 27927

Rising high above the Northern Outer Banks, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse stands proudly in Historic Corolla Village. Built in 1875, it was the last brick-and-mortar lighthouse constructed in North Carolina — its unpainted red brick designed to set it apart from the state’s other coastal lights. Inside, you’ll find exhibits that share the lighthouse’s fascinating history and its vital role in maritime navigation along the Atlantic. With its powerful first-order Fresnel lens and 20-second flash cycle, the beam can still be seen from 18 nautical miles away. Climb all 220 steps to the top and you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the Currituck Sound, the Atlantic Ocean, and the untamed beauty of the northern Outer Banks — a must-see experience while you’re here.

Corolla Wild Horse Tours

1159 Austin Street, Corolla, NC 27927

Meet the Legendary Corolla Wild Horses A must-see while you’re here — the Corolla wild horses are descendants of Spanish mustangs that made their home on the Northern Outer Banks centuries ago. These “Banker horses” roam freely along the beaches, embodying the untamed spirit of the coast.

Whalehead in Historic Corolla

Step back in time at Whalehead, a beautifully restored 1920s Art Nouveau mansion overlooking the Currituck Sound — and you may recognize it from our engagement photos! Once the winter retreat of the wealthy Knight family, this striking yellow estate is now open for tours that showcase its fascinating history, lavish design, and timeless charm. From Tiffany lighting to Mrs. Knight’s Steinway piano, every detail tells the story of Corolla’s gilded past.
