His Side: My freshman year of college, I was sitting in my dorm room when a beautiful woman and her friend were going door to door inviting people to their church's barbeque. In a moment of confidence, I asked for her number... and of course she, not realizing I was into her, tried to connect me with some of her guy friends. We didn't talk for a whole year after that - even had some classes together that we didn't know about until later! But then, luckily, we were scheduled a shift together at the coffee stand we both worked at. Drew rarely showed up to this shift and when she did, the shifts seemed to go by way too fast. We really started becoming friends while working together and I really started becoming friends with people from her church as well since they visited her constantly. One day in February of 2020 (pre-pandemic), Drew came to order a coffee from me at work and, in another moment of confidence, I wrote on her cup asking if she would be my valentine. Of course, she said yes, but it just so happened that on valentines day of that year she had a church conference that she wasn't going to miss for anything. Of course, I was bummed out, but it really made me think: "what is so worth while that she wouldn't want to spend valentines day with me?" Well, as it turns out, what was so worth while was Jesus. I started the year thinking I was going to be spending 2020 starting my relationship with Drew, but really I spent the year starting my relationship with Jesus. I learned and grew a lot that year, and finally in January of 2021, I officially asked Drew to be my girlfriend.
Her Side: I had suspicions that Sean was going to propose to me soon. Mainly because he accidentally told me, while he had the flu, that he had purchased a ring. Out of the blue, he mentioned that he wanted to take me to the Roslyn Café and that we could get all dressed up for this date. I didn't want to get my hopes up though, in case he was not actually going to propose that day so I tried to get it out of my mind. The days leading up to this date, my roommate was very concerned with what outfit I would wear, along with asking if we could paint our nails the night before. The day of, Sean picked me up from my house and we started our drive to Roslyn. I held his hand as he drove, and I noticed his hands were more sweaty than usual. He started to point out the houses we were driving past, and said we should take a detour to check them out. He turned down a road and pulled off into a parking lot (at this point I was nervous, especially because I had spotted my friends car hiding in the bushes). We started walking down a trail and taking in the beauty, and in the distance I spotted something sitting in the middle of the trail... it was a coffee cup. The same type of cup he had originally wrote on when we first started becoming friends. The cup had a sweet message on it, and further down the trail I saw another one. I followed the cups, while reading the notes on them, and they led me to the river. We stood next to the water, and Sean pulled out a letter which was a continuation of what the cups said. He read the letter (which made me cry), and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Obviously I said yes. Next thing I knew, our closest friends started running down the trail to celebrate with us. Then we got milkshakes and spent time with our dog, exactly what you would expect a newly engaged couple to do.
