Our Story

We met freshman year at UNC, and after a few awkward first dates, both realized there was something special about each other. Before long, we were staying up late talking, and spending time getting to know each other. Daniel survived extensive questions from my friends, and a dinner with my parents. He would walk all the way across campus to meet me in the morning before class (sometimes even bringing coffee), and made lots of effort to become friends with my friends and sorority sisters. Over the next few years at Carolina, there wasn’t a party, cocktail, or study break that we didn’t go to together. We both had a wonderful time at school and on vacation, where both of us got to become a part of each other’s families. After college, both of us went on to chasing our dreams; with Daniel becoming an Army Officer and me attending Campbell University Pharmacy School. Despite the distance, we both worked exceptionally hard to stay close, and after many plane tickets, car rides, and phone calls, we have survived almost 4 years of living apart. We can’t wait to spend our wedding with you, and look forward to many years together.

The Proposal

One Saturday in August, Dan was visiting Chapel Hill for an ROTC event, dressed in his Army Blues. That morning I was in Pinehurst attending a benefit Pure Barre class for the Wallace Beeson Foundation, so I was tired and sweaty. From there, I drove to Chapel Hill to meet Daniel and two of his ROTC friends from college at Top of the Hill. Daniel was extra chatty after we finished our drinks and walked to the student store so he could, "buy his mom a present." On our walk, he decided he wanted to sit on the Davie Poplar bench. Rumor has it, if you kiss someone on the bench, you will eventually get married. We sit there for maybe ten minutes and I keep hearing a rustle in the large bush directly beside where I am sitting. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a shiny black boot (very similar to the ones Daniel is wearing). I still have no idea what is happening. After we stand up, Daniel gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. All I could get out of my mouth was, "right now?" I finally was able to get out a "yes" then soon realized that boot belonged to one of Daniel's 'friends we met up with earlier, Lane, who was trying to get a picture.
