We met for the first time in the late months of 2010. Edward was a bit shy approaching for the first time, but gathered some courage to ask the name of the new pastor’s daughter. Mind you we had just been posted to that district of The Church of Pentecost. We kept a friendly relationship for three years through senior high school and became best of friends. We could talk about almost everything, freely without looking back. Edward made his intentions known to me on the 11th of July, 2013. He was straight to the point: ‘I want to marry you’. As young as I was, not fully understanding what that meant, I naively responded positively and left everything to time. A lot of our days from 2013 to 2018 were spent on UCC campus and then in 2018 I got the opportunity to travel to the United States to do my masters, the real test of our love and commitment began. I decided to pursue a PhD still in the USA after my masters program and that meant Edward had to wait for some more years While waiting, he also studied a masters program after his Doctor of Optometry degree. For 5 solid years, the closest we came was FaceTime, and that really pushed us to work hard to maintain our relationship. We are proud to say that after all these years, with all the ups and downs, the numerous happy moments and the few sad days we’ve had, Edward is about to fulfill his promise of marrying and loving me forever. I am also nearing the day that I say YES to my best friend, brother, study partner, encourager and the one who stole my heart.
