The Philly PHLASH is a quick, easy, and inexpensive connection to key Philadelphia historic attractions and cultural institutions. A day pass is only $5 and provides hop on-hop off service to all of the must-see Philly Landmarks such as Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, LOVE Park, City Hall, and the Art Museum. Note: This is NOT a guided tour... simply an inexpensive way to get to and from popular sights. For guided tours, we recommend getting tickets for the Philadelphia Sightseeing Tours (double decker tour busses).
Philadelphia’s Historic District is the birthplace of the nation and the first World Heritage City in the U.S., as designated by the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC). The Historic District, spanning from the Delaware River to 7th Street and from Vine Street to Lombard Street, is rich in history — after all, this was the heart of Philadelphia’s original city. Visit sites such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and just some really cool old buildings. It’s also home to buzzed-about restaurants and beer gardens. Our favorite is Independence Beer Garden. Grab some local beers on draught and play some yard games after you've walked around Philly's Old City!
Explore all of the local vendors and find some of the best food in Philly all in one spot. Some of our favorites are the roast pork sandwich from DiNic's, Beiler's Donuts, bagels from Kismet, and Hershel's Deli. Even if you aren't hungry, walking through the Reading Terminal is a must for Philly visitors (although, we recommend going hungry).
Looking for a great place for a morning run or walk? The Schuylkill river trail is a beautiful and well marked running/walking/biking trail that follows the Schuylkill river. You will pass by iconic Boathouse Row and likely see some morning rowers out on the water. If you are coming to our after party on Saturday, we will be in one of these boathouses on the river!
This is one of Philly's more iconic buildings, which is saying a lot for a city that is home to Independence Hall and other buildings important to American history. Why? Not for it's art... but because these are the steps Rocky famously ran up in his training montage. This huge museum has WONDERFUL art inside, but the grounds alone are worth walking. Run up the front steps Rocky style, walk around the side, and down the back steps for some beautiful views. From here, you can walk along the Schuylkill River Trail. For all the runners, this path is a great place to go for a run!
There are a million museums all over the city and we recommend nearly all of them. However, the Barnes foundation is Hannah's favorite. It is a smaller art museum right on the Parkway (which in itself is a must visit). You can stop over at the Philadelphia Museum of Art afterwards and run the Rocky steps!
This place is WILD and very cool. Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG) is an immersive mixed media art environment that is completely covered with mosaics. The creator, Isaiah Zagar, used handmade tiles, bottles, bicycle wheels, mirror, and international folk art to chronicle his life and influences. The space is made up of two indoor galleries and a bi-level outdoor sculpture garden. Fun fact: Hannah took her senior photos here!
This is a local favorite cheesesteak spot. Also grab a highly rated slice of East Coast pizza here!
This is Brad's favorite Cheesesteak. Enjoy traditional Philly sandwiches overlooking the Delaware River.
Pat's and Geno's (next door) is the most touristy and iconic cheesesteak experience, but not necessarily the tastiest. Be prepared to order "wit whiz." Key: wit = onions, whiz = cheese whiz.
