Drake and Lexi met in high school. They had the same best friends (Courtney, Jordyn, and Sami) but were not friends themselves. After graduating, they attended a party at a friend's house in December 2014 before Drake left for Navy bootcamp. They spent most of the night together but did not really speak after. Lexi told her friends how cute she thought Drake was and how she was sad that he was leaving because she did not want to date a 'military man'. When Drake returned home from bootcamp in April, he sent Lexi a text asking if she wanted to hang out and they've been together ever since.

Drake asked Lexi if she wanted to go to dinner in Columbus. They tried a new restaurant, went shopping for fall decorations, and got ice cream. Drake was very insistent that they go to dinner so Lexi kept thinking 'is tonight the night?' but after ice cream, they started driving home so she had convinced herself that it wasn't happening. Lexi's sister, Madi, had been at their house watching their dog, Duke, and was still there when they got home which was out of the ordinary for her as it was after 9 PM. Lexi kept trying to show her the new decor she bought but Drake kept stepping in front of her. He then got down on one knee and asked THE question all while their dog ran around trying to play. Lexi said "yes!" and began planning right away.
