In 2014, Brianna and Ryan first met in Downtown Sacramento through mutual friends. While only a brief encounter that night, they did add each other on social media. A year later, as fate would have it, they ended up seeing each other again while working during the summer. Brianna spent her summers working as a waitress at Crawdad's on the River and Ryan spent them working a second job at a dockhand at Riverbank Marina. Ryan noticed Brianna walking down the marina stairs to Crawdad's one afternoon while he was tending to boats and decided to re-introduce himself. After several conversations in passing, Ryan decided to ask Brianna out on a date. Brianna was reluctant to say yes at first, but Ryan was very persistent. After several failed attempts to get Brianna to go out on a date with him, he was delightfully surprised that Brianna came up to him one afternoon when they were both working on the river. She asked (aka told) him if he'd like to grab dinner when she got off work. Brianna and Ryan met up that night at Zocalo's for dinner. Ryan ordered a big plate of food, but was so nervous he only ate a few bites. Despite his nervousness, the conversation they shared was enjoyable, and they continued to talk everyday. Ryan easily integrated in Brianna's friend group. They continued to date and explore all California had to offer. Eventually, their feelings for one another grew, and they became an official couple.
After living in San Diego together for about a year, Ryan and Bri planned a getaway in Malibu for their 4 year anniversary. Ryan, Bri, and Gucci decided to have a picnic beach dinner right outside their beach house after unpacking. Little did Bri know, Ryan has something special planned, but Bri didn't make it easy. After traveling all day and with no clue, Bri refused to get ready in the silk dress Ryan had brought for her and opted for a beach sweater, no make-up, and braided hair. As the sun began set, Ryan suggested they leave their wine and charcuterie board for a stroll along the private beach. Ryan had not anticipated poor reception on the beach as he tried to contact the photographer he had tried to capture the special moment. After strolling south on the beach with the photographer nowhere in sight, Ryan suggested they go northward. Ryan finally made eye contact with the photographer and got down on one knee. Bri instantly started crying as Ryan pulled a small box out of his pocket. Ryan began telling Bri all the reasons he loved her as he opened the box to a beautiful engagement ring. Bri incoherent from an emotional overload looked from the ring to Ryan as she interrupted with a "Is it happening right now?!" Ryan shook his head to say yes as Bri surprisingly snatched the ring from Ryan and put it on her own finger. As Bri cried even harder (ugly crying at this point), Ryan continued his proposal speech. Bri, of course, said yes and they embraced.
Once Bri and Ryan pulled themselves together (mostly Bri), the photographer who had caught every moment of the proposal then guided the emotional couple through their stunning engagement photos. As you can guess, Bri was wishing she had gotten ready now. The photographer suggested the final photo be out on a rock plateau about 15 out into the waves. If you know Ryan and Bri, they are up for anything. As the waded out into the water and climbed onto the rock, a huge wave hit them both sending a background light the photographer had given Ryan out into the water. Bri instinctively dived out to catch it, but did not realize there were submerged rocks below. Bri didn't manage to reach the light in time, but did manage to wade back to shore with a scraped and bruised hip and leg. Thankfully, she also still had the ring on. The tide was rising quickly, but Bri isn't one to give up. She swam out to the rock and they were able to capture the photo you see at the top of the page. They ended their proposal day with beautiful photos and one heck of a proposal/engagement shoot story.
