How we met!

The Texas Two-Step

Her version: Cody and I met while we were both in El Paso for the summer at a country dance hall named Little Bit of Texas! We spent the night two-stepping and exchanged numbers before heading home. We both decided we would just be hanging out casually since both of us were attending college in different states ( him: Missouri me: Texas ) and both of us thought long distance was a horrible idea (it really is the worst) . BUT -needless to say - after a few dates we were both hooked! We spent the next 2 years dating through phone calls and letters, and the occasional surprise visit. I’m forever grateful we decided to tough it out because without him I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I am, without a doubt, a better person with him by my side.

How we met

His Version:

Being gone playing college ball, it was a rare occasion that I hung out with my older brother as adults. We decided to go to Little Bit of Texas since it was daisy duke night. I still had the X’s on my hands but, like a good brother, he snuck me drinks when he could. After a couple of those, I decided I really didn’t care about meeting girls and instead I wanted to learn to do the Texas two-step. So I went over to a group of girls, feeling semi-confident, and asked if any one could teach me how to dance. Luckily, the entire group pointed at the most beautiful girl in the group (and the world). With a rather large smile I strutted out onto the dance floor when “Wagon Wheel” came on. Not the fake Darius Rucker version, but the real Old Crow Medicine show version on, and Britt starting singing along. I was quite impressed that she knew the real version of the song, that she new how to dance, she was totally beautiful, and that she was nice to me for some strange reason. I was thinking I was so cool when I finally used the line I have always wanted to use “can I buy you a drink?” She said yes and I shamefully handed her money to buy herself a drink (since I wasn’t yet 21) . After a few more dances (including of course the Wobble) I asked for her number and we decided to go on a real date. I decided the best first date ever would be a baseball game - but when when we pulled into an empty parking lot - I realized I had mixed up the game dates and had actually brought her to an empty stadium. Despite this epic fail, we had an incredible first date (thank goodness for the theatre next door) and the rest, as they say, is history.
