Everyone is responsible for their own transportation to and from the airport and around Punta Leona, unless told otherwise. Please reference the “Travel & Accommodations” tab for more details. If you are flying in on Thursday around noon, the MOB (Sharon) is coordinating a shuttle pick up from the SJO airport to the house in Punta Leona. Please let Sara know ASAP if you would like to join the shuttle so she can plan accordingly with the driver. They will be coordinating the same service on their way back on Monday evening, for their flight on Tuesday morning/afternoon.
The reception will not be considered a “standard” wedding reception. Wedding ceremony and reception will all take place at the Casa Blanca house. Guests will be required to stand during the ceremony, except for the parents (+step parents) of the Bride & Groom. The ceremony will be short but you may want to consider this when making your shoe selection. Dinner will be considered "in-formal" and there will be no designated seating, except for the Bride & Groom. We have hired a private chef who will be prepping all meals at the residence and plating each individual meal with a guest name cards. Be sure to bring a change of shoes and swimwear for post-reception. The music is required to be finished by 10:00 PM due to neighborhood requirements. Should you have any additional questions, please reach out directly to Sara via text @ 772-233-5252.
The local currency in Costa Rica is Costa Rican Colón (CRC). 1 United States Dollar = 533.08 Costa Rican Colón 1 Costa Rican Colón = 0.0019 United States Dollar
The Costa Rica Colon is preferred, but US dollars are widely accepted. They recommend traveling with small denominations of US dollars for tipping purposes. Generally, bills larger than $20 are not accepted. Even if you use the USD, you will likely receive your change in colones. Credit card payment is widely accepted, most commonly MasterCard, Visa, and American Express, but the further off-grid you get, the less likely. You'll want to tell your credit card company that you'll be in Costa Rica before your trip to ensure your cards work without issue. If you plan on driving, you will want to have a variety of Costa Rica colones (bills and coins) with you as there may be toll roads along your route. Your wallet may feel a bit stuffed with all the cards and currencies you’re keeping track of, but having a few different methods of payment on hand is going to save you time and stress.
A 13% value-added tax (VAT) is charged on professional services in Costa Rica. There's an additional 10% service tax added to meals as a tip for the staff. Hotels are subject to a 13% sales tax on room charges.
Reference the “Schedule” tab for more details on attire. Each event includes a detailed overview on event attire and do’s/don’t do's. Please be sure to follow accordingly.
Tipping is really up to you based on your overall experience, the level of service, and your budget. Nobody should expect a tip, but it is a thoughtful way to reward someone for their experience, knowledge, and help. Restaurant bills include 10% gratuities, but it is perfectly acceptable to leave extra for good service. However, it is worth noting that tipping in Costa Rica is not considered a requirement the way it is in the United States.
As much as we LOVE our families and friend’s children, they will not be invited to any of the weekend festivities due to the limited space and the wedding atmosphere that we envision for our perfect wedding weekend. (Minus one exception that we have made at the request of the bride for her ideal perfect wedding day) If you choose to travel with your entire family because you are looking to extend your trip before or after the weekend, we recommend bringing someone that can watch your children for each of the three wedding events. Children will not be allowed at any of the events Friday through Sunday so please don’t be that person and ensure that you plan accordingly on your end.
All invitees can submit their response to each of the three events via the "RSVP" tab on the wedding website. The digital "save the date” and "formal invitations" have been sent out. If you haven't received anything yet, please let Sara or Justin know. Should you need assistance with anything, please reach out directly to Sara or Justin. (Justin: 772-260-7447 or Sara: 772-233-5252)
Details are TBD at this time. Touch base with Justin for more details. The fishing event will take place on Friday, September 22nd in the early morning to early afternoon. If you are looking to participate, you will need to fly in by Thursday evening. Everyone will be expected to pay their own way.
Yes, a passport is required to travel to Costa Rica. Contact Sara if you need assistance with instructions.
