It really depends on who you ask, but we'll use Spencer's version! DD and Spencer met and worked together at Bottoms Up Sports Bar and Grill in 2014 (even though they had gone to the same Middle School and High School). Even though they only worked together for a few short months, they quickly became friends. Spencer moved to Virginia to find a career and "hang" with his dad and sister. Still, they kept in touch and during winter break of DD's senior year in college he came back to visit. FINALLY, they had their first date and spent every second together. When winter break was over, Spencer went back to Virginia but promised to come back to visit again during DD's spring break. DD, her sisters, and a few friends drove to Florida for a final Spring Break Party. Mary (DD's middle sister) decided one final drink at Bottoms Up sounded like a good way to end the trip, especially since Spencer would be in town the following day. After two sips Mary "gets a phone call" and has to step outside. Five minutes later she comes in with Spencer following her. DD was all smiles as he got himself a drink to join them. In Spencer fashion, he said, "I have some good news and bad news which do you want to hear first." Obviously, DD said the bad news first. Turns out Spencer had to return to work the following Monday (which would mean he was leaving the next day) EYEROLL. However, the good news is that he now worked in Burr Ridge, Illinois!! As you can imagine DD's jaw nearly hit the floor. He had moved back for good and they could really get things started!! <3
It was Christmas Eve, Eve 2019. Spencer had made plans for the two of them to walk around downtown Naperville and get dinner at their favorite restaurant. Afterwards, we would meet up for drinks and gift exchange gifts with their friends Allison and Jon. DD was so excited that he made plans that she talked about it ALL DAY. Since they didn't see the Morton Arboretum Light show for DD's birthday, Spencer had thought a walk around the decorated downtown would do the trick. They started by the Hotel Indigo and made their way across the bridge by a huge Christmas Tree and Santa's Village. Spencer pulled DD aside and asked her what she wanted for Christmas, she responded, "a dog, obviously" (as a cute dog walked past them). Spencer giggled and said, "If that dog didn't just come by what would you want". DD replies with, "Well, a ring but that's not going to happen". (For the record Spencer always said he wasn't going to propose on a holiday and if you ask him about it, one day away doesn't count-he still made it.) Anyways, Spencer grabbed both her hands and said, "Well, you know I love you right?". And that was it! DD was in complete shock and is pretty sure she yelled, "WAIT IS THIS A JOKE” as Spencer opens the ring box upside-down. DD is already full of tears as she says, “YES” to the easiest question he could ever ask her!! It was the best moment of their lives!!
