About the Venue

The Wedding Website of Dori Marlin and Danny Cooper
The secret love affair between Herman Melville and Mrs. Sarah Morewood began in August 1850 when they met at the old colonial mansion in Pittsfield, MA. Sarah had purchased the property from Herman’s uncle and it later became known as Broadhall Manor: a place where literary giants such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Henry Longfellow would come to stay. Herman moved his family from Manhattan to Pittsfield at a property adjacent to Sarah’s (later known as Arrowhead). Though they had established families, the love affair between these two carried on and they would access each other through the woods that separated both properties. Sarah was a socialite, while Herman used this time to write his novels like Pierre and Moby Dick. Their unique and passionate love story is part of what makes the Country Club of Pittsfield so special. The section that was built in 1785 remains much the same today and you can feel its strong history as you walk through the main doors.
