On May 7, 2019, Donny and Vivian first saw each other in the parking lot of the Alibi Tiki Bar in Portland, Oregon. Donny panicked and hid behind a car door from shyness, but once they got up the nerve to talk to Vivian (in no small part due to Vivian's karaoke choice of "Maps") it was clear that the two of them would be fast friends. About a month later the two met up at The Alibi a second time. Although Vivian insisted it was not a date, by the end of the night, sparks were flying. "I would very much like to kiss you," Vivian explained, "but 'Creep' is playing." So, they left to share their first kiss in the very parking lot where they first saw each other. A few months went by, and although they were living in separate countries, they made time for dates whenever Vivian was in Portland. When Donny mentioned in a text that they would be playing in an upcoming roller derby game, however, Vivian immediately responded with "I'll be there." After that, their meetups became more intentional, cumulating in a two-week-long road trip across the Okanagan region of British Columbia sleeping in the back of Vivian's Honda Element. "When we come back from this trip, either we won't be able to stand each other or we'll be madly in love," Vivian said, "and I hope it's the later." Donny agreed. By November they had U-Hauled, and four months later a global pandemic happened. So, suffice it to say they got to know each other pretty well from that point on. Through many days of mimosas and Mario Party and nights of deep conversation and pun-offs, their bond grew, and the two of them decided that if they could make it through COVID-19, they could make it through anything. Two years later, they moved from an apartment to their very own house with the intention of building the rest of their lives together. After months of fretting over which ring to purchase (and eventually trusting their sister's opinion), Donny proposed to Vivian back at The Alibi where their combined presence was practically a staple of the establishment by this point. Vivian said "yes," and after a two-year engagement it is finally time to take those vows! Thank you for choosing to celebrate with us.
