We met at an Atlanta Falcons tailgate party through a mutual friend and soon found ourselves deep in conversation about relationships. The connection was instant, and the chemistry was undeniable. Donnie eventually left the party to meet up with his Line Brothers to celebrate 25 years as members of Phi Beta Sigma. But the spark lingered — later that evening, he texted our mutual friend asking for Kamilah’s number. After a week of nightly phone conversations, we finally met for lunch. The conversation flowed so effortlessly that we didn’t want the day to end, so we planned another date. The following week, Kamilah went over to Donnie’s to watch Lovecraft Country, and from that moment on, we’ve been inseparable.

It was Labor Day weekend, and our pool party was in full swing. Kamilah’s five sisters were visiting, and we were also celebrating one of her niece’s birthdays. As we gathered in the kitchen to sing "Happy Birthday," Donnie began giving a heartfelt speech that led into a surprise proposal.
