This Sunday, I decided to visit a new church. After the service, I noticed a Dollar General across the street. Of course, I stopped to grab a soda and some candy. DJ was my cashier, and the rest was history! It's funny because I used to say that God would have to send my husband to work, the gym, church, or the store since those were the only places I went. And He did JUST THAT! - Candice I was working as a part-time cashier at Dollar General. When Candice walked in, I said: "It's hot out there, ain't it?" She said: "Yes!" with a glowing smile. While she was shopping, I told my manager to close the self-checkout so she would have to come to my register. When she got to my line, I asked three questions: * Are you single? * Do you have a boyfriend? * Can I get your number? She said: "Yes, no, yes." I slid her a piece of blank receipt paper and a pen. She wrote her number down and walked out, twisting those hips to the exit with a big smile. —DJ
Our first date was at a San Jose Mexican Restaurant after work, on a random Tuesday, two days after we met. I was so scared of choosing wrong (which I seemed to be good at), so I was trying hard not to miss any red flags. His car being blue was a surprise because I'd never seen a man drive a blue car. Plus, he didn't open the restaurant door for me like a gentleman, so I was done before the date even started. I shut down, and HE TALKED THE ENTIRE TIME. As soon as I got home, I told him we wouldn't work out. He asked for one more date to prove he was the man God created for me. I thought, "God didn't tell me that!" I felt uneasy about my decision, so I talked to friends and family. They told me I was being ridiculous. I didn't want to waste time getting to know someone who wasn't my gift from God, so I prayed. God gave me several clear confirmations over the next two days that DJ was created to be my husband. I apologized and asked for a redo date two days later. — Candice I met her for dinner after working a 12-hour shift in the hot sun. I thought the date went great, but when I got home, I received a text from her saying it wouldn't work out. Basically, she dubbed me after the first date. - DJ
One week after meeting her, I knew she was special and that I wanted her to myself. So, l asked her to be my girlfriend on our second “first” date, and she said YES! -DJ
At this point, we were two weeks into knowing each other. DJ and I went on a walk at Lake Wilson, it was 1,000 degrees, and I was tired. So, we sat on a bench and talked. During the pause in conversation, I awkwardly blurted out, "I love you," then covered my face. I contemplated saying it because I knew it sounded crazy, but I was already in love. I could tell in my heart he was perfect for me and had a good heart. He was so intentional about constantly showing his love for me, and I knew that's what I wanted for my life. — Candice
I was told to dress up for a 1-year anniversary photo shoot at Lake Wilson. My cousin got me dolled up and camera ready. When I arrived, our loved ones were lined up with roses for me to collect. DJ popped out of the bushes, read me a love poem, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I was a water bucket and could barely get the word "yes" out. He worked so hard with our families to make this day special and a complete surprise. I will always be grateful for that beautiful moment. It meant so much to have everyone there to witness and support us. — Candice
We are so excited to celebrate this next chapter with you!
