We met in our freshman year of high school and started as classmates and mutual friends. It wasn't until the end of sophomore year, going into summer, that Donnam started to gain feelings for Calvin and started talking to Calvin by asking for the homework assignments. Our romance started to peak in the summer during our TRIO program.
When did you decide it was time to propose? I knew it was time to propose when I realized that every moment felt a little bit better with her around. Whether we were enjoying the summer sunset walking our dog around the block or sneaking McDonalds in the middle of the night, everything just felt… right. It wasn’t some dramatic moment. It was just this quiet, certain feeling that she was the one I didn’t want to lose. What did you do before proposing? Feelings? I spent way too much time planning and overthinking every little detail, imagining all the ways things could go wrong. It honestly felt like I was right back to our first date... nervously hoping everything would be perfect. And did things go wrong? Of course. I stumbled over my words, forgot half of what I planned to say, and almost fumbled the ring. But in the end, none of that mattered. She said ‘yes,’ and that’s all I cared about. Where and when did you pop the big question? I popped the question in Oregon, a place that became special to us because it was our first big trip together (just the two of us) to another state. We wandered around, made a ton of memories, and somehow fell in love with Oregon almost as fast as we fell in love with each other. So naturally, I figured, why not make one more unforgettable memory? That’s when I got down on one knee and asked her to be my lifelong partner. And luckily, she didn’t leave me hanging.
