Question

What do I wear to the events?

Answer

We welcome everyone to wear traditional Indian or South Asian clothing or Western clothing to any of the events, it is your preference and everything is welcomed. For the Sangeet you can wear anything you may wear to a typical "rehearsal dinner". For those who are interested in wearing traditional South Asian clothing (Saree, Lehenga, Kurta, Sherwani etc.), feel free to wear any color of your choosing, except all cream, white or black, as we would love to see everyone in color and white is a color associated with mourning. But if your outfit has spots of neutrals, that is perfectly acceptable!

Question

What should I expect for the ceremony itself?

Answer

We will provide more details as the wedding gets closer, but for a Hindu wedding ceremony, it is conducted by a priest in a Mandap (canopy with four pillars). The priest chants prayers and the bride and groom go around a central fire four or seven times. Then they take seven steps together with vows to support each other in their married life. The ceremony lasts about an 90 minutes. There will be refreshments served during the ceremony. Unlike many wedding ceremonies, you can get up, have a snack and come back, it is not disrespectful.
