Our story begins on January 26th, 2019, when we both "swiped right" on Tinder. Don was the first to reach out and within minutes of talking we found out we are both big Giants fans and both agreed that Metlife is a terrible stadium. Our conversation led to us finding out we don't agree on baseball or hockey teams and both of us even questioned "Do I still talk to this person?" (yes we take sports seriously). Despite our disagreement on teams, we started texting which then led to Facetimes at night to Don asking Katlyn out for a first date. On February 13th - Don took Katlyn to McLoone's Boathouse for a drink at the bar. If you are Don's HS friend then you know the story behind McLoone's ;). Our first date then led to a second date on February 18th at Bunny's in South Orange. The second date went well and Don asked Katlyn to be his girlfriend right after dinner. We dated for 5 years and in those 5 years Katlyn graduated with her bachelors and masters, we both had many different jobs, and Don moved to Hoboken. But through it all we were always there and supported each other. We took a big step and moved in together in May 2023 to Montclair, NJ. I guess living together went well since 9 months later Don proposed on our 5 year anniversary. We drove to NYC where Don planned a whole weekend at the Ritz Carlton in Nomad. It was a big surprise to find out we were on the VIP floor and had access to a private lounge of endless drinks and food. Don had planned a special dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant that was on the bottom floor of our hotel. The food was incredible and Don planned a lovely night but his big surprise almost got ruined. When we returned to our hotel we found a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room with a card that said "congratulations." Katlyn and Don walked over and before Katlyn could even pick up the card, Don quickly swiped it. He quickly turned around and opened the card then turned back around and said "it's from my parents for our anniversary." Katlyn started to become suspicious since she could tell Don was nervous about something but she brushed it off. The next day was our anniversary and Don had a whole day planned. We started with a delicious brunch and mimosas. Then went to the spa and got massages with a private room with champagne and macaroons but AGAIN Don's surprise almost got ruined as Katlyn found out later on that there was actually a card in the room and inside it said "Congratulations on your engagement." Instead Katlyn saw a card with a big 5 on the front and inside it said "Happy Anniversary and many more." We had a reservation for dinner at a fancy restaurant in our hotel - the food was incredible! We got another surprise when the Head Chef came over to congratulate us on our anniversary and offered a free dessert to celebrate. It was a heart shaped pastry with ice cream that was beautiful and delicious! When we were leaving the restaurant, Katlyn noticed how the head chef and other staff were giving Don some looks and patting his back as he walked by but again she brushed it off. We had a reservation at the rooftop bar in our hotel but we had some time to kill so we went to our VIP lounge for some cocktails. This is where Katlyn knew something was wrong. The whole time Don was looking out the window, barely making eye contact and conversation with Katlyn. That night was the winter classic of Rangers vs Islanders. The Rangers were down bad at first but came back and won! However, Don just shrugged when the win was official and if you know Don then you know this is very out of character for him. Katlyn kept asking Don if he was okay and if he wanted to skip the bar reservation but Don said no. Little did Katlyn know when Don would ask to take a picture (which he never does) that it would be the most magical moment because he got down on one knee and asked Katlyn to marry him!
