Question

What is the Rainbow Room?

Answer

The Rainbow Room, sitting on the 65th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, opened in 1934 as an Art Deco supper club featuring a revolving dance floor, live orchestras, and sweeping views of Manhattan. Over the decades, it became a magnet for cultural icons to perform and dine there including Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Liza Minnelli. Closed in 2009 for extensive renovations, it reopened in 2014 as a special events venue.

Question

Why is this weekend so busy?

Answer

Our wedding weekend happens to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which is when the world’s heads of state swarm the East 40’s for their annual meeting. With the UN campus mere blocks from Rockefeller Center, the gridlock-iest times will be daytime Tuesday 9/22 - Friday 9/25. This means you’ll want to plan local travel more carefully and farther in advance than a normal weekend in NYC.
