We're Getting Married!

Sometimes, love has a funny way of sneaking up on people—even when it’s been quietly waiting in the wings for years. Dominique and Matthew’s story begins in high school (2013-2017), where they shared hallways, mutual friends, and countless missed opportunities to get to know one another. Although they moved in the same circles, they somehow never exchanged more than a few words and a social media follow. After high school graduation, life took them in different directions. Matthew moved to the East Coast for college golf, while Dominique stayed local at GCU. It seemed like that was that. Fast forward to 2022, a year after college graduation. Matthew moved back to Arizona and their paths intersected again—this time on Hinge, the dating app that was ready to give fate a nudge. Matthew saw Dominique’s profile and swiped right, expressing interest. When Dominique saw his name pop up, she was intrigued but hesitant. Could an online dating app really be how their story started? It felt too... convenient. Curious, Dominique asked one of Matthew’s good friends (hi Cole!) about him. The verdict? Glowing reviews all around. Even so, she couldn’t shake the feeling that if Matthew was serious, he’d find another way to pursue her. So, with a mix of curiosity and determination, she declined matching on Hinge, trusting that what was meant to be would be. Unbeknownst to Dominique, the friend relayed this conversation to Matthew, stating Dominique's interest and hinting that a more personal approach might resonate. A month later, Matthew buzzed Dominique and asked her to dinner. This time, she said yes. That first dinner lasted 4+ hours. They laughed, shared stories, and quickly realized that what they had was something special. Just four dates later, Matthew recorded a private, soon-to-be time capsule video on his phone declaring "I'm going to marry Dominique Oliver." Without knowledge of the video, Dominique later wrote a similar note on her phone that read "I hope I get to love him forever." The rest is history.
