Our wedding is strictly by invite only. We will only be able to accommodate those listed on your formal invitation. Our goal is to keep our very special weekend as intimate as possible and choosing to celebrate with only our closest family and friends. Thank you for respecting our wishes!
Due to guest number restrictions, we are only able to extend the invite to the children of close family, so children will be by invite only. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us!
We would recommend going to a store called Balam "Artesanias y Ropa de Manta" Andres Teran (just a 6 min uber from the hotels) which is in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. It's very walkable and has a lot of other stores for traditional clothing and trinkets.
There are no visa requirements if you are entering Mexico as a tourist. Depending on your airline you will be given an immigration form to fill out upon entering the country. If your airline does not give this to you you can get one after you go through customs. IMPORTANT: if you are given a paper receipt please hold onto it as you may need it to return home. If you are not given a paper receipt then no need to worry your passport stamp will have all the information customs will need for your return.
The Mexican government does not require that your passport be valid for at least 6 months if you want to visit Mexico meaning you can enter and leave the country up until your expiry date, however, we recommend to have >6 months of validity before expiry to be safe.
Most places in Guadalajara accept credit card, but we recommend having Mexico pesos in cash available to you during your stay. The easiest option would be to exchange your money at the airport in Guadalajara when you arrive, but the exchange rate will be terrible. You can also take out cash at any bank ATM near where you stay at anytime and pay the standard $3-6 fee to withdraw. We recommend withdrawing cash from one of these banks: Banco Santander, BBVA Bancomer, HSBC.
Guadalajara is a massive city and is generally safe and you shouldn't have to worry, but like any big city there a few "street smarts" to keep in mind during your stay: 1. Avoid walking alone at night. The Colonia Americana area where your hotels are is very safe and walkable, but just be sure you're walking in a group and use common sense at night time. If ever in doubt just take an uber! 2. If you go to some famous markets like San Juan de Dios in the center of the city, keep a close eye on your belongings. We recommend wearing a purse or fanny pack that has a zipper closure. Pick pocketing can happen in these areas (has never happened to any of us), but if you're aware and just keep an eye on your things you'll be good to go!
Best transport method will be Uber, so please download the Uber app ahead of your trip. If you use a taxi service please coordinate directly with your hotel for any pickup. We will provide you with specific taxi companies you can use upon your arrival. We do not advise renting a car unless you have previous driving experience in Mexico.
Most US carriers have Mexico included in their plans that allow you to use text and call as normal, but please check with your carrier. If not, most carriers offer temporary data passes for an additional fee. However, most cafes, bars etc will have wifi available to customers.
The country code for any local phone calls in Mexico is +52. We highly recommend downloading Whatsapp ahead of time as majority of all communication in Mexico is handled over Whatsapp.
You might - we recommend practicing the basics or having your phone handy to help with on the spot translation. People in Guadalajara are very friendly so will work with you to try and help, but since it's a more local crowd not everyone will speak English (which is part of the fun!)
Do not the drink tap water. You should only drink bottled water - ice is safe to drink. We advise to also keep your fresh vegetable consumption to a minimum as it's hard to control if they have been washed with clean water. We always ask the waiters if purified water was used before eating any salads etc and we've never gotten sick! There are different bacterias and cultures in foreign country cuisine that your body may not be used to, so please plan ahead in case of stomach issues. If needed, you can easily get any medication at a near by pharmacy and consult with a pharmacist. Worse case scenario, it's very easy to see a doctor in Mexico so hopefully that gives you peace of mind! In general, use common sense when trying new foods. We will add in our favorite food recommendations in the "things to do" tab.
We will create a group chat on Whatsapp and add all our guests so that you have a life line for any questions that come up during the stay / get real time updates. If you do not have Whatsapp we recommend downloading it before your arrival.
